Derek Braithwaite is a young, up-and-coming photographer/videographer who is currently attending Durham College for Digital Video Production. Derek has been interested in photo and video production ever since he purchased his first video camera around the age of 10 years old. In grade 9, Derek accompanied his Uncle on the set of a TV show for Bring Your Kid To Work Day, and Derek immediately knew he was where he wanted to be working for the rest of his life. With his Uncle being a camera operator, it gave Derek someone to talk a lot about, and learn a lot from. Derek soon inherited his older sisters Canon Rebel XTi DSLR camera, and immediately began taking it everywhere he would go, for artistic purposes, as well as for memories. The program Derek is in at Durham College seems to be perfect for him, combining photography and videography and learning the many important aspects of each. Derek tends to focus his photography towards nature, real life, and capturing the moment. Understanding how to observe and analyze photos helps him appreciate the story and the meaning the photographer put into their photo, and provides a lot of inspiration for him and his photography and how he is going to portray his story or meaning.
